Building Safety & Security
Safety & Security in residential areas. It is easy to become complacent while living on a college campus. Crime is relatively low and there are Security Officers patrolling campus 24/7.
Does that mean we can be relaxed in thinking of our personal safety & security? The answer to that question is simple: No.
You may ask yourself what can I do to ensure my safety & security on campus. Here are a few simple suggestions to help you.
1. The most important thing to remember is lock your doors and windows. This is the best and easiest way to prevent theft.
2. Do Not flash your cash and valuables.
3. Participate in Operation ID. (see Operation ID page on main page of this site).
4. Report ALL inoperative lights, broken windows, broken doors etc. Vandalism breeds vandalism.
5. Report ALL illegal, suspicious, and criminal activity.
6. Un Prop doors and windows, DO NOT prop them. Who are you letting in?
7. Participate in Campus Watch. (see Campus Watch on main page of this site).
8. Watch Out for friends and neighbors. Get to know your community.
9. During move in and move out try to avoid property being unattended for long periods of time in your car. Crooks "window shop".
10. DO NOT Let anybody into your building you do not know, refer them to the visitor call phones.
OFFICE SAFETY & SECURITY
1. LOCK YOUR DOORS AND WINDOWS Even if your just stepping out for a minute or two
2. Never leave strangers alone in your office even for a short time.
3. Lock valuables in your desk and do not display them.
4. Never loan out keys.
5. Always get authorization from the person who asks to remove something from your area.
6. Participate in Campus Watch, and Operation ID. (see Campus Watch on main page of this site).
COMMON AREAS
Common areas are high risk theft areas. (Library, Lounges, Locker Rooms, Class Rooms, Meeting Rooms etc). Never leave your valuables unattended for any period of time. Theft is a crime of opportunity.
You Don't Have To Wear A Badge To Fight Crime. Everybody Can Do It!
