Available Programs
Currently the Office of Crime Prevention has available several programs. Below are the programs currently offered. As new are designed they will be added. If you have an idea of a service we do not provide please go to "Let's Discuss It" or Program Request Line.
Operation Identification
This is a nationally recognized program. There are two way's to participate:
1. You can register property online on this site by clicking Property Registration. Or bicycles by clicking Bicycle Registration.
2. You can also call the Crime Prevention Office at 654-2000 ext. 1192 to make an appointment to have your belongings engraved. In either case the information will be kept on file until your graduation or the time a person leaves Saint Michael's College. Then if an item is stolen, contact the Department of Public Safety to file a report and at the same time inform the officer taking the report that you are in the program. The serial numbers are then incorporated into the report and said information is passed to local police. It should be mentioned that this program in no way guarantees a return of a stolen item, but does improve the chances of you getting that item back. (Contact 1192 for appointment).
Ride Along Program
This program is offered to ALL members of the Saint Michael's College Campus. Students, Faculty, and Staff. The program is designed to educate those who participate on what responsibilities and duties the Department of Safety & Security are charged with. It will also show a different side of the Saint Michael's Campus. This program is ONLY for those who are seeking knowledge about campus enforcement issues. Due to the sensitive nature of incidents witnessed by riders, there is a waiver and screening process.
Prevention Educational
The office of Crime Prevention has many educational productions. These include many topics and most have power point or other media. Topics include but are not limited to:
Alcohol, drugs, dealing with aggressive persons, theft, personal safety, vehicle safety, and many other safety and security related topics. In most cases topics can be covered as long as there is about a weeks notice. This can be done by email at mmannings@smcvt.edu.
Officer Area Liaison Program
Officers are assigned area's to which they represent. A posting will follow to inform you of your Liaison Officer. Please take a moment to visit with that office and voice any questions or concerns about safety and security to your representative from our department.
