SWC Annual Report for FY

This year, the Personnel Welfare Committee did the following:

Final draft of PTO
Donation Policy was submitted to HR for review. Implementation effective
July 1, 2006.

PWC Summer elections 2005
completed.
-
Conducted an online
survey/needs assessment for employee development and job enrichment.
Results were summarized and a proposal for staff development funding was
submitted to HR for review. Results and Summary are available on the PWC
Web.

Memo to SMC Cabinet c/o
Mike New was sent requesting consideration of a more equitable
distribution of cost-of-living increases for employees (that would not
privilege faculty over staff).
-
Representatives of the PWC
met twice with Mike New to clarify salary increases and the delay of
increases to October 2007. PWC hosted an opening meeting for staff in
November 2005 with Mike New and Neal Robinson to discuss the financial
situation of the College. PWC hosted an opening meeting for staff in
April 2006 with Mike New and Neal Robinson to discuss the salary
increase and delayed implementation.

February 2006: launched
the PWC Web site (http://www2.smcvt.edu/pwc/) on the SMC Web.
-
Responded to 12
suggestions/inquiries posted to the PWC Suggestion Box on the PWC Web.
-
Updated the list of area
businesses offering discounts to SMC employees and posted to newly
created Perks@Work Web page on the PWC Web.

PWC representation on
Staff Compensation Committee (Ingrid Peterson, Stephanie Noakes, and
Tara Arcury).
-
PWC representation (Susan
Moses) on Retirement Plan Taskforce.
-
Submitted the names of 5
PWC members for consideration for College Presidential Search Committee.
Outcome: The Chair of the Board of Trustees selected two other staff
member representatives (not on the PWC).
Objectives for the 2006-2007 Academic Year
are:

PWC Summer elections 2006

Convene committee and
develop program for annual staff recognition awards

Follow progress and
implementation of proposed staff training and development program

Host PWC September retreat
for incoming and outgoing PWC members to focus goals and objectives for
2006-2007

Review and revise mission
of the Personnel Welfare Committee
Members of the Personnel
Welfare Committee wish to thank the staff of the Human Resources
Department for their cooperation and follow-through in responding to PWC
questions. We are grateful to Tina Tenney, Mike New and Neal Robinson
for their attendance at designated PWC meetings.
