“The large house in which we live demands that we transform this world-wide neighborhood into a world-wide brotherhood. Together we must learn to live as brothers or together we will be forced to perish as fools.”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

At the time of his assassination in 1968, King was beginning to develop a truly global perspective on the issues of economic, social, and political injustice and part of his findings called for a critique of the American system.  It is important to understand the elements of Dr. King’s philosophy that extended well beyond mere Black/White tension.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Society is dedicated to carrying out that legacy. It is an organization for students who are willing to think critically and fearlessly about the problems that plague our society. It encourages students to examine the content of their own character, regardless of skin color, and to be honest with themselves about whether or not their actions are in accordance with their principles.

Our Goals:

  • to present and examine various aspects of current political, social, and environmental issues of related interest, and concern to MLK members
  • to educate the members about these issues
  • to educate the membership about these issues
  • to develop a plan of action in response to these issues
