Diversity Coalition

In his book Postethnic America, David Hollinger points out that although the multiculturalism movement has generally been a powerful and positive force, “it has not provided an orientation toward cultural diversity strong enough to process the current conflicts and convergences that make the problem of boundaries more acute than ever.”

This is the challenge that members of the Diversity Coalition will take on. Do we do our nation a disservice when we talk about diversity exclusively in terms of race and ethnicity? Or conversely, when we try to invoke an understanding of diversity that is comprehensive and inclusive, are we being irresponsible and disrespectful to this nation’s history of racial oppression and tyranny? If you don’t know the answer, but like the question, this is the club for you.

The Diversity Coalition serves to educate and promote awareness of issues such as gender, race, religion, and ethnicity. Our goal is to provide an educational sanctuary where postmodern concepts of multiculturalism, poststructuralism, and ideologically diverse perspectives aid the individual intellectual with a new sensitivity, awareness, and understanding for a global community.
