Bishop DeGoesbriand Memorial Hospital, Offices of the Superior/Administrator series (1924-1967)
Administrative History
The Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph served in the Bishop DeGoesbriand Memorial Hospital, their second Catholic hospital in Vermont State. Bishop Rice asked the RHSJ to staff and administer this new 100 bed hospital that supported the medical college of the University of Vermont.

Scope and Content
This series consists of files created, accumulated and used by the Administrator of the Bishop DeGoesbriand Memorial Hospital, particularly during the tenure of Sister Frances Dower, from its opening in 1924, through the merger with the University of Vermont College of Medicine and the Mary Fletcher Hospital in 1966 to form the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont. It includes minutes, correspondence, by-laws and legal documents, financial documents, information on the staff, building, and programs of the hospital.
The series consists of the following six subseries: administrator’s correspondence and other papers; by-laws; minutes, annual reports, and financial documents; Doctor and staff information; newspaper clippings and historical material; wills, bequests and deeds.

Scope and Content
This subseries consists primarily of the correspondence to and from the Superiors and Administrators of the Hospital. The files of Sister Frances Dower along with those of Sister Aurore Parenteau are particularly well represented. Also included in this subseries are records relating to the relationship between BDGH and the University of Vermont and the Mary Fletcher Hospital; correspondence, memos, and other records relating to the merger of the institutions to form the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont.

Scope and Content
This subseries consists of by-laws, articles of association, and other legal documents for the Bishop DeGoesbriand Hospital Inc., later the Bishop DeGoesbriand Memorial Hospital, Inc., the Medical Staff of the Hospital, the Medical Center of Vermont, Vermont Association of Nurse Anesthetists. It also contains meeting minutes, rules and regulations and other documents relating to the by-laws.

02.03.00 Minutes, annual reports, and financial documents subseries (1924-1968)
Scope and Content
This subseries consists of board minutes, annual reports and financial documents of the Bishop DeGoesbriand Hospital. Along with minutes of the chairman’s committee and medical board, there are also meeting minutes and reports from various hospital departments and committees, and, after 1966, from the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont. The annual reports include financial information and reports on hospital services including numbers of patients admitted, treatments administered, deaths, laboratory statistics, and annual reports, including statistics, to the American Medical Association. Financial documents report on loans and hospital revenues and expenditures and correspondence.
