$1.1 Million Raised for New Fire and Rescue Station

Saint Michael's Fire and Rescue is proud to announce that the $1.1 million needed to begin construction of a new Fire and Rescue station has been raised, thanks to a $700,000 pledge from Robert E. Sutton '66 (see press release). Currently, Fire and Rescue Squads operate out of two separate buildings on North Campus and Main Campus. The new station will consolidate the location of the department's two ambulances, fire truck, and hose truck, increasing efficiency and response time.

The new station will contain living, sleeping, office, classroom, and study space for Fire and Rescue’s 39 student members. The bay floor will have capacity for the department's apparatus as well as gear, decontamination, and storage. Student officers will have space to keep records and on-duty crews will have a comfortable day room with kitchen facilities.

Upcoming plans include determining a definite location for the new station and beginning the permit process, with groundbreaking in October 2003.
