They fit! Yesterday we tried on the new bays for size, and everything fits. There's even room to walk around the apparatus and rigs with the compartment doors open. Imagine that! Click here to view the picture.

Things at the new Sutton Fire Station are looking up! Literally.
Progress at the building site has been moving along swiftly, the foundation has been poured and the apparatus floor was poured yesterday and today steel is being put in place.

The construction crew has arrived at the site of the new Robert E. Sutton Fire and Rescue Station.
Equipment arrived yesterday, and today workers are beginning to clear the area. In the coming days they will begin excavating to install a retaining wall so that the site can be filled and leveled.
We have installed a web camera that is aimed at the building footprint, and there will be a link from our website so that you can take a look at the progress. The link is below. So you have the proper orientation, the camera is facing an east-southeasterly direction, Prevel Hall is off in the distance in the upper left hand corner and Route 15 is off to the left side of the image. The initial site work will be off to the right of the image, but the foundation will be centered once it's begun. The image is updated each minute.
Please feel free to check in from time to time to see how the project is progressing. We will post periodic updates on the website.

At their meeting on October 21 & 22, the College's Board of Trustees approved an increase in the budget for the new station from 1.2 million to 1.6 million. The increase is a result of rising construction costs.
At the same time the College was given the go ahead to sign contracts with the architectural and construction companies for the final planning and construction of the station.
At this point, we are awaiting building permits from the Town of Colchester and Act 250 clearance. I have been told we can expect construction to start towards the end of November.
