WILLIAM J. MAZUR COLCHESTER - William J. Mazur, 68, passed away at home in
Colchester on April 8, 2005. Bill was born July 4, 1936, in Willimantic,
Conn., the son of the late William J. and Katherine (Machura) Mazur. He was
raised in Manchester, Conn., and became a lifelong resident of Vermont when
he moved there to attend college. Bill graduated from St. Michael's College
in 1960. After graduation, he worked at St. Michael's College as manager of
the print shop and post office until he retired after 35 years of service to
the college. Bill served in the Vermont Air National Guard for six years in
the personnel office. He was a charter member of St. Michael's College Fire
and Rescue where he attained the rank of Assistant Chief for 19 years. He
retired from active duty do to illness. Because of his love for the fire
service, he volunteered to assist and organize training programs for his
fellow firefighters. Bill was a member of the North Country International
Fire School, where he was treasurer, Training Coordinator, and in charge of
all registrations for the school. He was also a member of the Chittenden
County Training Committee, which held a county school every fall. He served
as head of this committee for many years and also was in charge of the
registration process. He designed the brochures for both schools. He stepped
down from both positions due to health reasons. Bill was an Honorary Member
of the Colchester Center Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a member of the
Vermont State Firefighters Association Scholarship Committee for many years.
Bill will always be remembered by many for his many years of dedication to
the fire service. Bill is survived by three sisters, Beth McDonald and her
husband Bruce of Southport, Conn., Katherine Murphy of Westerville, Ohio,
and Ann Mazur of Manchester, Conn.; as well as three nephews, and two
nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 12, at
10 a.m. in the Chapel of St. Michael the Archangel, St. Michael's College,
Colchester. The Final Alarm will be accorded to Mr. Mazur following the
Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St.
Michael's College Fire and Rescue, Inc., Box 280, Winooski Park, Colchester,
Vt. 05446. Visiting hours will be Monday, April 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the
LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski
