Entering
his seventh season at the helm of the Purple Knights in 2005, Marcel Choquette has
put the Saint Michael’s College women’s soccer program on the local and
regional map. The program, which originated in 1981, has experience
historic success under Choquette’s leadership, as he has guided the
squad to the only three 10-win seasons in team history.
In just six years, Choquette has become the winningest coach in
school history, matching the record
of 52 set by Azzie Azagoh Kouadio from 1988-96. Despite competing in the
heavily talented Northeast-10 Conference, Choquette has guided his teams
to five straight .500-or-better seasons, and three consecutive winning
campaigns from 2000-02. In addition, his teams’ list of achievements include: most
wins in a season, most goals in a season, most assists in a season, most
total points in a season, three consecutive conference tournament
appearances, and the program’s first ever bid to the ECAC Division II
Tournament. He has the highest winning percentage of any women’s soccer
coach in program history (.505, 52-51-7).
Choquette came to Saint Michael’s from nearby Missisquoi Valley Union
High School where he taught Physical Education and served as the
Director of Athletics and Head Coach for the girl’s soccer program. In
addition to 12 years of experience in public education, he also had
coaching stints at Norwich University and Lyndon State College. In
addition to his work experience, he holds a Master’s degree in Athletic
Administration, and an Advance National Coaching Diploma from the NSCAA.
He is a staff coach for the Nordic Spirit Premier Soccer club and is the
head coach for the Under-11 and Under-12 girls’ premiere teams, and is a
New England ODP Regional staff coach.
Choquette’s playing experience includes a four-year college career at
Lyndon Sate College where he was a three-time All-Conference selection,
and an All-New England and All American candidate. He is still among the
school record holders for career points, career goals, and career
assists. He has also played professionally, most recently with the
Vermont Wanderers (Voltage).
Along with his coaching duties, Choquette has administrative duties in
the Athletic Department, including Intramural Director and Director of
Summer Sports Camps. He presently resides in Milton.
