The contest was the first of the year for the women played on Saint Michael’s outdoor tennis courts. Saint Anselm improves to 8-1 overall and in conference play, and moves into sole possession of second place in the league. Saint Michael’s, meanwhile, falls to 7-2 overall and in NE-10 action. The Hawks received strong performances from seniors Courtney Foster (Southboro, Mass.) and Allison Pinsince (Somersworth, N.H.), as the tandem notched an 8-3 win in No. 2 doubles and recorded straight-set singles victories. Also winning twice for Saint Anselm were sophomore Kara Kouri (Westwood, Mass.) and freshman Lauren Koloski (Newbury, Mass.). For the Purple Knights, junior Shannon Bergin (Milford, Conn./Lauralton Hall) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles, while senior Courtney Murphy (Norfolk, Mass./King Philip Regional), playing in her final collegiate home match, tallied a 6-4, 6-1 victory in No. 6 singles. Saint Anselm hosts Bentley College on Saturday, while the Purple Knights close the regular season with league contests at Le Moyne College on Tuesday and Franklin Pierce College on April 17.
