Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – A 16-day layoff did not hurt the Saint Michael’s College women’s tennis team, as the Purple Knights cruised to a 9-0 victory versus Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday at the Tarrant Recreation Center.
Saint Michael’s won every set in improving to 2-1 in conference play (2-1 overall), while the Penmen fall to 0-3 overall and in league action. Earning victories in both singles and doubles were senior Courtney Murphy (Norfolk, Mass./King Philip Regional), junior Shannon Bergin (Milford, Conn./Lauralton Hall), sophomores Elizabeth Madlem (Ventura, Calif./Villanova Prep) and Anna Young (Louisville, Ky./Holy Cross HS), and freshman Elizabeth Clemente (Latham, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names).
The Purple Knights return to action on Thursday, as Saint Michael’s hosts NE-10 rival Merrimack College at 4 p.m. in what is tentatively slated as the second half of a doubleheader. The men’s tennis team’s match at Merrimack postponed from today will most likely take place on Thursday at 12 p.m. at the Tarrant Recreation Center.
