Phone: (802) 654-2537SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Rochester Institute of Technology scored five goals in the first 12:24 and cruised to an 11-0 victory versus Saint Michael’s College in ECAC East women’s ice hockey action on Saturday at Cairns Arena.
Senior Alysia Park (Dallas, Texas) and freshman Bridget Cleary (West Chester, Pa.) each tallied two goals and an assist for the Tigers, while freshman Nicki Werner (Quakertown, Pa.) stopped all 13 shots she faced for RIT (10-2-1 overall, 6-0-0 ECAC East).
Sophomores Erin Gilmore (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) and Annice Mason (Berlin, Vt./U-32) combined for 47 saves for Saint Michael’s (0-10-1, 0-6-0).
Much like Friday’s contest, the Tigers wasted little time in scoring, as senior Perry Foster (Pittsford, N.Y.) wristed a shot past Mason 2:57 into the opening period. RIT scored four more even-strength goals in the next 10 minutes, by senior Jen Gorczynski (Rochester, N.Y.), junior Kasie Strong (Groton, Mass.), Park and sophomore Nicole Gedney (Maple Grove, Minn.).
RIT continued its offensive display in the second stanza, tallying five goals in the first 13 minutes of the frame. Cleary scored consecutive goals 27 seconds apart midway through the period, while Park, sophomore Meghan Erickson (Akron, Ohio) and classmate Sam Boscia (Bedford, N.Y.) also lit the lamp.
Erickson completed the scoring at 11:13 of the third period with the game’s lone power-play tally, as Saint Michael’s held the Tigers to one-for-six with the extra attacker.
The Purple Knights’ best scoring chance came midway through the opening frame, as a pair of breakaway shots by sophomore Halley Grabarz (Manchester, Vt./Univ. of Southern Maine) were stopped by Werner.
Saint Michael’s returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Amherst College at 7 p.m. in a rematch of their Dec. 3 contest in Amherst, won by the Lord Jeffs, 6-2.
