SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Rochester Institute of Technology received goals from eight different players in defeating Saint Michael’s College, 8-0, in ECAC East women’s ice hockey action on Friday at Cairns Arena.

Three players tallied a goal and an assist apiece to lead the balanced attack: senior Alysia Park (Dallas, Texas), junior Kendra Bredlau (Pleasanton, Calif.), and sophomore Nicole Gedney (Maple Grove, Minn.). Senior Elaine Vonderembse (Genoa, Ohio) stopped 26 shots in two periods of work to record the victory for RIT (9-2-1 overall, 5-0-0 ECAC East), while sophomore Annice Mason (Berlin, Vt./U-32) turned aside 45 shots for Saint Michael’s (0-9-1, 0-5-0).

The Tigers quickly took control of the contest, tallying three even-strength goals in the first 3:51. Sophomore Meghan Erickson (Akron, Ohio) opened the scoring just 1:18 into the contest, and RIT increased its lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals 37 seconds apart, by senior Jen Gorczynski (Rochester, N.Y.) and Gedney.

Rochester added to its lead late in the first stanza, as Bredlau tallied her second point of the period. Junior Kasie Strong (Groton, Mass.) increased the Tigers’ lead to 5-0 early in the second frame, collecting the first power-play goal of the contest.

The visitors completed the scoring with a trio of third-period tallies. Park notched her team-leading 15th goal 2:25 into the frame on the power play, while freshmen Lauren Owens (South Windsor, Conn.) and Bridget Cleary (West Chester, Pa.) notched their first career goals to close things out.
Saint Michael’s and RIT conclude their two-game series on Saturday with a 3 p.m. tilt.
