CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior Meg Lyons (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional) tallied three goals and two assists as Saint Michael's College blanked Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 9-0, in ECAC East women's ice hockey action on Saturday.Freshman Melissa Gagne (Eliot, Maine/Berwick Academy) added a goal and four assists, while sophomore Michelle Miaskiewicz (Salem, Mass./North Shore Vipers) recorded a goal and three helpers as the Purple Knights' top line connected for five goals and nine assists. Sophomore Annice Mason (Berlin, Vt./U-32) stopped all eight shots she faced for her first career shutout for Saint Michael's (2-15-1, 2-10-0 ECAC East).
Juniors Regina Sullivan (Shoreline, Wash.) and Alana Lafferty (Chapel Hill, N.C.) combined to record 64 saves for MIT (1-9-0, 0-9-0).
Saint Michael's got on the board late in the first period, as Miaskiewicz scored with 4:02 left in the stanza. Gagne doubled the Purple Knights' lead with just 27 seconds remaining in the period with a power play tally.
The visitors broke the game open with four goals in the second frame. Sophomore Halley Grabarz (Manchester, Vt./Univ. of Southern Maine) gave Saint Michael's a 3-0 lead 46 seconds into the period, while a pair of Lyons' goals and one by freshman Martha Salois (Winthrop, Maine/Windale Icedogs) late in the stanza gave the Purple Knights a 6-0 cushion.
In the third frame, freshman Andrea Marcotte (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) tallied her first two collegiate goals, while Lyons finished her hat trick with 3:34 remaining.
Saint Michael's visits the University of Massachusetts Boston for a two-game series Feb. 6-7 before playing its final two home games of the season against New England College Feb. 13-14 at Cairns Arena in South Burlington.
