COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College men’s soccer team (3-4) went undefeated this past week, picking up two shutout victories, both by scores of 3-0. On Wednesday at Johnson State, after completing the first half tied at zero the Purple Knights had a three goal surge, as sophomore Yoshikazu Ishii (Tokyo, Japan) scored two goals and Scott Hinman (New Hartford, Conn./Northwestern Regional) added another, while Patrick Melvin (Belmont, Vt./Black River) contributed two saves. On Saturday, Melvin again turned away two shots as SMC hosted Assumption College. Freshman Jan Heyboer (Park Ridge, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) netted his first collegiate goal, and Ishii added a pair of assists to finish the week with a four point output.
The field hockey team (4-3) extended its winning streak to four games as the Purple Knights earned conference wins over Franklin Pierce and Bryant University by respective scores of 4-2 and 4-1. SMC was anchored by Lindsay Harrison (Brandon, Vt./Otter Valley Union), who scored her first three goals of the season in the two victories, and by Cassie Dewey (Lebanon, N.J./Mount St. Mary’s Academy) who contributed two goals and an assist.
The women’s tennis team (1-1) began its season on Saturday with a home match against Bentley College.
