ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose women’s basketball team suffered an 84-77 setback to visiting Saint Michael’s in a Northeast-10 Conference game tonight at Sage College of Albany.

Saint Michael’s senior forward Erica Kensey (Bow, N.H./Bow) led all scorers with 24 points while senior guard Lindsey Bradt (Albany, N.Y./Hudson Valley CC) had 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field.

Meanwhile, freshmen sisters Jevy Rainer (Westminster, Vt./Bellows Falls Union) and Dani Rainer (Westminster, Vt./Bellows Falls Union) tossed in 17 and 13 points, respectively.

Freshman guard Mary Lewis (Roxbury, Mass./Tabor Academy) led the Golden Knights (6-15, 3-13 NE-10) in scoring for the 11th time this season with 19 points. She also tied her career high with nine assists and pulled six rebounds. Sophomore forward Kelli-Ann Henry (Bronx, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) tied her season high with 17 points while reigning NE-10 freshman of the week, guard Courtney Ludwig (Shaftsbury, Vt./Mount Anthony Union), scored all nine of her points in the second half thanks to three 3-pointers.

Jevy Rainer gave the Purple Knights (7-13, 4-13 NE-10) a 13 point, 58-45 lead just 2:21 into the second half when she converted a layup at 17:39 for Saint Michael’s largest lead of the half.

Saint Rose stormed back with a 17-4 run to square the contest 62-62 with 12:49 remaining. Freshman guard Linsey Onishuk (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin Academy) started it with a conventional three-point play while Ludwig capped it with back-to-back treys off a pair of Lewis assists.

After falling behind 70-63 with 8:50 to go, Saint Rose scored 14 of the next 20 points to take the lead for the first time since the opening minute of the game, 77-76, on a fastbreak layup by Lewis with 3:27 showing on the clock.

The lead was short lived as Bradt connected on a jumper during the next trip down the floor for a 78-77 Saint Michael’s advantage. The Golden Knights were then held scoreless the rest of the way while coming up empty on their final four possessions.

Both teams shot over 50.0 percent in the first half. The Purple Knights blistered the nets for 58.8 percent (20-for-34) shooting including 72.7 percent (8-for-11) from beyond the arc. Saint Rose shot a respectable 50.0 percent (16-for-32) from the floor.

Saint Michael’s jumped out to an early 20-9 lead just 4:46 into play. Saint Rose got as close as 40-33 with 4:41 left, but a 12-6 spurt before the break gave the Purple Knights a 52-39 cushion at halftime.

The Purple Knights return to action Saturday versus Pace University at the Ross Sports Center at 1:30 p.m.
