PURPLE KNIGHTS SNAP SKID, ROLL PAST SNHU

MANCHESTER, N.H. —  Freshman Jevy Rayner (Westminster, Vt./Bellows Falls Union) totaled 22 points and 10 rebounds and senior Erica Kensey (Bow, N.H./Bow) contributed 15 points and four steals to lead the Saint Michael's College women's basketball team to a 78-68 victory over Southern New Hampshire University tonight at SNHU Fieldhouse.

SNHU jumped out to an early 9-2 advantage in the first three minutes of the game. St. Michael's responded with 19-0 run of their own over the next six minutes, with Rayner scoring eight of the Purple Knight points, to take a 21-9 lead.  SNHU would cut the Purple Knight lead to five with just under five minutes to go in the first half, but St. Michael's responded with a 9-2 over the next two minutes to expand the lead again. St. Michael's held a 43-30 lead at halftime. 

St. Michael's outscored the Penmen 9-2 over the first five minutes of the second half and took a 22-point lead, 54-32, following a three-pointer by sophomore Brigid Hegarty (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic). The Purple Knights later took their largest lead of the game, 62-37, following two free throws by senior Christine Johnson (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) midway through the second half.  SNHU would cut the deficit to 10 after a 16-3 run over the final three minutes of the game.

Senior Colleen Quinn (Oakdale, Conn.) scored 21 points to pace SNHU.  Sophomore Glhansy Bonhomme (Laval, Quebec) added a career-high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while senior Amy Stilphen (Gardiner, Maine) added nine points. Freshman Dani Rayner (Westminster, Vt./Bellows Falls Union) tallied 12 points, six rebounds, and six assists for St. Michael's.

SNHU is idle until Dec. 14 when it travels to Bentley College at 2:00 p.m.  St. Michael's hosts College of Saint Rose Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
