Seniors Jack Granato (Wethersfield, Conn.), Pat Blomberg (Sturbridge, Mass.) and Brandan Towers (East Hartford, Conn.), along with freshmen Matt Grabala (Bristol, Conn.) and Andy DeVita (Milford, Mass.), were winners in both singles and doubles action for the host Chieftains (7-5, 7-0 Northeast-10), who are off to their best start ever in conference play. Sophomore Matt Hansen (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) added a straight set win at number six singles for Stonehill, while DeVita teamed up with junior Kevin Charland (North Scituate, R.I.) for an 8-3 win at number three doubles to complete the Chieftain sweep. The win enabled Stonehill to match its highest Northeast-10 victory total ever, as the Chieftains also reached the seven league win plateau in both 1988 and 2002. The visiting Purple Knights fall to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in Northeast-10 play with the setback. Stonehill hosts Merrimack in a Northeast-10 dual-match on Thursday afternoon on the Stonehill Courts beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Saint Michael’s heads to Manchester, N.H. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 5:00 p.m. FINAL: STONEHILL 9, SAINT MICHAEL’S 0 Singles Results #1 Jack Granato (STO) def.
