Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – Sophomore Jeremy Jablonski (Mastic, N.Y.) tallied seven goals and two assists as Pace University scored 11 first-half goals and defeated Saint Michael’s College, 16-7, in Northeast-10 Conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday at Doc Jacobs Field.
Classmate Mike Dimler (Long Valley, N.J.) added two goals and five assists for the Setters. Sophomore Colin Achenbach (Burnsville, Minn.) scored three goals and senior Michael Considine (Massapequa, N.Y.) tallied two goals and an assist for Pace (3-1, 2-1 NE-10), while senior Joe Cassano (Medford, N.Y.) stopped 14 shots.
For the Purple Knights, junior Ryan Lynn (New Canaan, Conn./Kent) and sophomore Brandon Kobelt (New York, N.Y./Fordham Prep) recorded three goals apiece, while junior Nick Calnen (W. Hartford, Conn./Conard) picked up a goal and an assist. Junior Brian Hingston (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) turned aside 11 shots for Saint Michael’s (1-4, 1-2), which dropped its third straight contest.
Pace dictated play from the outset, scoring three goals in the first 3:38 and six goals in the opening period while racing out to a 6-2 lead. The Purple Knights pulled to within 9-6 midway through the second stanza on Lynn’s third goal, but the Setters scored the final two goals of the first half to lead 11-6 at intermission.
The Setters relied on their defense in the second half, holding Saint Michael’s scoreless in the third period. Five saves by Cassano in the third quarter thwarted the Purple Knights’ comeback efforts.
Saint Michael’s returns to action on Tuesday, as the Purple Knights visit cross-town rival University of Vermont at 3:30 p.m. The next home contest for the Purple Knights is Thursday against league-rival Franklin Pierce College at 3:30 p.m.
