Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – Sophomore Brandon Kobelt (New York, N.Y./Fordham Prep) tallied seven goals and two assists as Saint Michael’s College scored the final 17 goals and bested in-state rival Norwich University, 19-2, in men’s lacrosse action on Thursday at Doc Jacobs Field.
Junior Nick Calnen (W. Hartford, Conn./Conard) added three goals and one assist for the Purple Knights, while classmate Mike Curley (W. Hartford, Conn./Conard) chipped in with two goals and two assists. Senior Barrett Hyde (No. Andover, Mass./No. Andover) and junior Ryan Lynn (New Canaan, Conn./Kent) each scored twice as Saint Michael’s (4-6) won its second straight contest.
Senior Nick Dolpp (Williamsville, N.Y.) and freshman Dan Sullivan (Plymouth, Mass.) recorded a goal apiece for the Cadets, while sophomore Jeff Thomas (Colorado Springs, Colo.) turned aside 12 shots for Norwich (5-6).
The visitors stayed with Saint Michael’s for most of the opening period, but the Purple Knights took the lead for good with 4:27 remaining in the first frame on an unassisted goal by sophomore Eric Libby (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset). Kobelt then took over, as he scored five of the next six goals in a 12-minute span, boosting the lead to 9-2.
Saint Michael’s sealed the victory with three goals in the third and six more in the fourth, as junior Brian Hingston (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) and freshman Robert McCarthy (Milton, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) each stopped four shots.
Saint Michael’s returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday as the Purple Knights host Bryant College at 1:30 p.m.
