COLCHESTER, Vt. – Seventh-ranked Bryant College scored six goals in the first period and held off Saint Michael’s College, 12-4, in Northeast-10 Conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday at Doc Jacobs Field.

Senior Jon Yuengling (Merrick, N.Y.) led a balanced Bulldogs’ offense with two goals and two assists, while junior Jason Easteadt (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) notched a game-high three goals. Senior Chris Pisclotta (Floral Park, N.Y.), junior Andrew Serge (Albany, N.Y.) and freshman Sean Ball (Hollis, N.H.) each posted two goals and one assist for Bryant (8-4, 6-1 NE-10), which kept alive its chances of a regular season championship.

For the Purple Knights, junior Ryan Lynn (New Canaan, Conn./Kent) scored twice off of assists from classmate Mike Curley (W. Hartford, Conn./Conard), while sophomores Tristan Bandoni (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) and Brandon Kobelt (New York, N.Y./Fordham Prep) also scored. Junior Brian Hingston (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) turned aside seven shots for Saint Michael’s (4-7, 3-5), which saw it two-game winning streak come to an end.

The Bulldogs took control in a six-goal opening period, as Ball scored twice in the quarter. The visitors added three goals in the first 3:07 of the second quarter to take a 9-2 lead into intermission.

Defense reigned supreme in the second half, as the Purple Knights held Bryant to just three goals in the final 30 minutes, but could only muster two goals themselves. Freshman Craig Phillips (Watertown, N.Y.) stopped seven shots in relief to help the Bulldogs preserve the win.

Saint Michael’s, which remains in seventh place in the league standings, plays a key conference contest on Monday at sixth-place Merrimack College at 3:30 p.m. The top six teams qualify for the league playoffs. The Purple Knights also visit crosstown-rival University of Vermont on Tuesday before hosting top-ranked Le Moyne College on May 1 at 12 p.m. in the regular season finale.
