SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Trinity College scored four unanswered goals in an 8:02 span of the third period to break open a close game and defeat Saint Michael’s College, 8-3, in men’s ice hockey action on Saturday at Cairns Arena.

Sophomore Richard Masucci (Winthrop, Mass.) helped the Bantams get the win with two goals, while junior Joseph Ori (Niles, Ill.) added a goal and two assists. Junior Doug Kiselius (Park Ridge, Ill.) stopped 18 shots as Trinity improves to 8-8-0 overall, 6-5-0 in NESCAC play.

For the Purple Knights, freshman forward Jared Silver (Montreal, Quebec/Tabor Academy) scored a pair of even-strength goals, while senior Justin Quenneville (Montreal, Quebec/Stanstead College) also scored. Freshman Derek Jackson (Clinton, N.Y./Gunnery School) turned aside 44 shots, including 21 in the first period, as Saint Michael’s (6-9-0, 4-7-0 ECAC East) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.

Silver gave Saint Michael’s a 1-0 lead at 9:23 of the first period on a centering pass from sophomore Jonathan Perez (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Berkshire School). Trinity, with a two-man advantage, tied the score less than two minutes later on a goal by senior forward Stephen LaBrie (Springfield, Mass.).

Silver tallied his second goal of the game and gave the Purple Knights a 2-1 lead on an unassisted goal at 2:21 of the second period. The Bantams, however, took their first lead with a pair of goals 30 seconds apart late in the stanza, taking advantage of another two-man advantage. Freshman forward Simon Dionne (Montreal, Quebec) and junior forward Ryan Stevens (Concord, N.H.) notched the power play goals.

Trinity pushed its lead to 4-2 late in the second period courtesy of senior forward Kevin Dmochowsky (Cedarburg, Wisc.), but Quenneville cut the deficit in half 43 seconds into the final frame with his team-leading 11th goal of the season. That was as close as the Purple Knights would get, as the Bantams scored four even-strength tallies in the next 10 minutes to snap a three-game losing streak.

Saint Michael’s returns to action on Tuesday, as the Purple Knights host Division II rival Stonehill College at 7 p.m. at Cairns Arena.
