PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Senior Ben Renzin (New Rochelle, N.Y.) celebrated his final regular season home game with style, finishing with 13 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals, as Pace University defeated Saint Michael's College, 84-69, in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action on Tuesday.Renzin hit two 3-pointers, with the second being the 100th of his career, making him just the 11th player to reach that mark in Pace men’s basketball history. The Setters improve to 17-10 overall and 12-10 in the NE-10. The Purple Knights complete the season 8-18 overall and 5-17 in conference play.
Pace lead at halftime, 37-27, and never relinquished the lead. The first half saw Saint Michael’s open the game with a 12-4 run. Pace battle back and tied it at 15-15 with just fewer than eight minutes to play. Pace then reeled off a 16-4 run of their own, taking a 31-19 lead at the 2:21 mark. Neal Wellington (Wheaton, Md.) finished off the first half as he nailed a 75-foot shot as time expired. Wellington finished with a game-high 18 points, as well as four rebounds, six assists and four steals. He was 5-of-8 from the floor and 4-of-7 from long range.
The second half was all Pace as they opened up with an 18-4 run that gave them a 55-31 lead with 15:43 left to play. Pace led by as many as 26 after a 3-pointer by DeShawn Jordan (Sacramento, Calif.) at the 3:54 mark. For the game, Pace out shot Saint Michael’s, 44.3 percent to 32.3 percent and forced Saint Michael’s into 21 turnovers.
Jordan recorded a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Oneil Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica) was the only other player in double-figures for the Setters, tallying 16 points and five rebounds as well as three blocks.
For Saint Michael’s, senior Delbert Randall (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall), playing the final game of his collegiate career, totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds, as well as three blocks. Freshman Brendan Mullins (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) finished with 10 points and three assists and sophomore B.J. Robertson (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) totaled 10 points and three rebounds.
