Phone: (802) 654-2537CANTERBURY, N.H. - Senior Greg Stopera's (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) 21st-place finish led the way for the Saint Michael's College golf team as the Purple Knights placed 10th out of 12 teams at the 2003 Penmen Fall Classic, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University at Canterbury Woods Country Club, Oct. 4-5.
Stopera posted rounds of 80-79--159 on the par 72 layout. He was followed by freshman Cameron Velott (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), who tied for 28th with a 36-hole total of 163. Sophomore Mike Duffy (Yarmouthport, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) fired the best round of the meet for the Purple Knights, as his score of 79 on Sunday helped him tie for 47th.
Bryant College ran away with the team title, posting a team score of 583. Bulldogs' sophomore Jim O'Connell (Troy, N.Y.) won the individual crown with a two-under-par 142.
Saint Michael's completes its season in two weeks, as the Purple Knights compete in the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships, held in New Seabury, Mass., Oct. 19-21.
