STOPERA LEADS PURPLE KNIGHTS AT NEIGA CHAMPIONSHIP

Phone: (802) 654-2537BREWSTER, Mass. - Senior Greg Stopera (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) paced Saint Michael's College with a two-day total of 169 as the Purple Knights tied for 36th with a score of 696 at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship, held at The Captains Golf Course on Cape Cod.
Also playing the final match of his career was senior Chris Chase (Aurora, N.Y./Southern Cayuga Central), who finished second for Saint Michael's with a 173. Sophomore Mike Duffy (Yarmouthport, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional), playing just minutes from his hometown, carded a 177 and had the best 18-hole round for the Purple Knights, posting an 80 on Monday. Rounding out Saint Michael's contingent were freshman Cameron Velott (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) with a 183, and senior Greg Duval (White River Jct., Vt./Hartford) with a 191.
Among Division II schools competing in the championship, Saint Michael's placed seventh out of nine teams, with Bryant College earning the title by placing fifth overall. The University of Rhode Island won both the Division I and overall championships, posting a two-day score of 610, while Husson College claimed the Division III crown.
