PICKMAN LEADS PURPLE KNIGHTS PAST SAINT ANSELM FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                      FOR MORE INFORMATION October 2, 2003                                                                        Contact: Seth Cole                                                                                                Phone: (802) 654-2537 MANCHESTER, N.H. - Sophomore Nikki Pickman's (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) goal with 10:58 remaining snapped a two-all tie and gave No. 9 Saint Michael's College a 3-2 victory versus Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Thursday. Following a scoreless first half hampered by rainy conditions, the Purple Knights scored twice early in the second period to take a 2-0 lead. Senior Debbie Gallant (Salem, N.H./Timberlane) opened the scoring by converting a penalty stroke, and five minutes later, classmate Jessica Simmons (Bethlehem, N.H./Profile) tallied an unassisted goal. The Hawks rallied to tie the contest midway through the second half. Junior Meg Coleman (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) connected with under 25 minutes to play, and sophomore Aly Slaven (Danvers, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) knotted the score with 15:57 remaining in regulation. That set the stage for Pickman, who scored her second goal of the season, and second of her career, off of an assist from senior Michelle Patts (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury). Junior Tamsen Hunter (Center Tuftonboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional) picked up her second win of the season for the Purple Knights, as she turned aside five shots. Junior Lisa Bellantoni (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) recorded 17 saves for Saint Anselm (3-8 overall, 2-7 NE-10).
