GRAY GUIDES NO. 9 PURPLE KNIGHTS TO 3-1 VICTORY

Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – Senior midfielder Jenn Gray (Skowhegan, Me./Skowhegan) tallied two goals and an assist as No. 9 Saint Michael’s College recorded a 3-1 victory versus No. 10 Franklin Pierce College in a Northeast-10 Conference contest on Tuesday at Doc Jacobs Field.
Gray gave the Purple Knights a 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the match, as the co-captain scored off a pass from sophomore defender Johanne Skelley (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional). Just five minutes later, Saint Michael’s doubled its lead, as Gray fed classmate Jilby Danis (Burlington, Vt./Rice Memorial) for her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Gray, meanwhile, recorded her 23rd career assist, just two behind Sarah Alves ’01 all-time mark.
The Purple Knights added some insurance early in the second half, with Gray connecting for an unassisted goal. Junior goalkeeper Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) nearly earned the shutout in net, but the Ravens’ Debbie Jones (Escondido, Calif./Bishops) scored with 4:53 remaining to complete the scoring.
Anderson stopped two shots for the victors, as did Franklin Pierce netminder Brandi Guertin (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham). The Ravens fall to 4-5 overall, and 3-5 in NE-10 play.
Saint Michael’s (5-4, 4-3 NE-10) faces a stiff test on Saturday, as the Purple Knights visit conference rival and No. 7 Bentley College in a 2 p.m. contest.
