GRAY LEADS PURPLE KNIGHTS PAST BULLDOGS, 3-1

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Seniors Jenn Gray (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) tallied a goal and two assists to tie the school's all-time assist mark as No. 9 Saint Michael’s College defeated No. 6 Bryant College, 3-1, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Saturday at windy and rainy Doc Jacobs Field.

Gray’s goal 11:27 into the second half, which came off of a penalty corner from senior Jessica Simmons (Bethlehem, N.H./Profile, snapped a one-all tie and proved to be the game-winner. The two connected again for an insurance goal with 4:50 remaining, as Gray fed Simmons in front to complete the scoring and tie Sarah Alves '01 school record of 25 assists.

The Purple Knights opened the scoring just 1:11 into the contest, as senior Jilby Danis (Burlington, Vt./Rice Memorial) scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season. The Bulldogs responded five minutes later, with senior Erin Hoffman (S. Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) banking in a shot off a Saint Michael’s defender.

Junior goalkeeper Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) recorded the win for Saint Michael’s, stopping seven shots. Junior Kristen Patat (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) also finished with seven saves for Bryant (9-4 overall, 7-3 NE-10).

Saint Michael’s (7-5, 6-4) visits the University of Massachusetts-Lowell on Tuesday before hosting Southern Connecticut State University on Sat., Oct. 11 at 12 p.m.
