COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College celebrated Senior Day in style, setting a school record for goals in a 10-1 victory versus American International College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Saturday at Doc Jacobs Field.

The ninth-ranked Purple Knights, who close the regular-season with five consecutive wins, enter the conference tournament as the No. 4 seed. Saint Michael’s (12-6 overall, 11-5 NE-10) will host No. 5 Stonehill College on Wednesday afternoon, with a time yet to be determined. The Purple Knights have posted a pair of one-goal victories versus the Chieftains this season.

Saturday’s contest belonged to senior Jenn Gray (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan Area), who tallied a career-high four goals and added an assist. Gray becomes the first Purple Knight with four goals in a contest since Seanna Poelaert ’00 accomplished the feat on Oct. 10, 1999 versus Merrimack College. With three tallies coming in the second half, Gray matched a school record for goals in one period.

Also scoring goals in their final regular-season contest were Jilby Danis (Burlington, Vt./Rice Memorial), who notched a pair of first-half goals, and Debbie Gallant (Salem, N.H./Timberlane), who recorded her second career goal on a penalty stroke.

The Purple Knights opened the scoring six minutes into the contest, as Danis scored off of Gray’s assist. Saint Michael’s increased its lead to 4-0, as Danis, Gray and Gallant notched unassisted goals.

The Yellow Jackets converted on their first shot of the game late in the opening stanza, as sophomore Kristen Wright (Lunenberg, Mass.) rifled a shot past Saint Michael’s junior goalkeeper Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt./Springfield).

In the second half, Saint Michael’s erupted for six goals. In addition to Gray’s markers, freshman Cassie Dewey (Lebanon, N.J./Mount Saint Mary’s Academy) scored twice, while junior Linette Letendre (Wellfleet, Mass./Nauset) notched her first goal of the season.

Anderson stopped one shot for the victory, while freshman Megan Trystman (Kwazulu Natal, South Africa) turned aside 17 shots for American International, which completes the season 0-20, 0-16 in league play.

Other Saint Michael’s seniors honored prior to the game include; Abbie Bartlett (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional); Lindsay Howe (York, Maine/York); Michelle Patts (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury); Jessica Simmons (Bethlehem, N.H./Profile); and Julie Teach (Vienna, Va./Saint Andrews School (Del.)).
