LYNDON STATE MEN, UVM WOMEN WIN THREE-TEAM RACE

(802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Lyndon State College men and the University of Vermont women each claimed team titles in a three-team cross country meet hosted by Saint Michael’s College on Friday.
On the men’s side, the Hornets placed three of the top four runners to edge the Purple Knights. Saint Michael’s senior Drew Best (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) won the individual title in a time of 25:36, with Lyndon State claiming the next three spots: Jeremiah Bias (W. Burke, Vt.) in 25:52; Michael Curtin (Fort Mitchell, Ky.) in 26:10; and Thorin Markison (Danville, Vt.) in 26:31.
For Saint Michael’s, freshman Tom Lichtenberger (Bloomfield, Conn./Northwest Catholic) recorded a fifth-place finish, while sophomore Lionel Welch (Worthington, Mass./Wahconah Regional) placed eighth. Lee Stanton (Fair Haven, Vt.) led the Catamounts with a sixth-place showing.
In the women’s race, the top seven finishers were Catamounts as Vermont cruised to victory. Senior Michele Palmer (Plymouth, Mass.) claimed the championship in 18:09, while classmate Tee Gingras (Barre, Vt.) was second in 18:25.
Saint Michael’s held off Lyndon State for second place, with sophomore Kimberly Fahner (Westminster, Vt./Vermont Academy) finishing ninth to lead the Purple Knights. Senior Kristen Dinsbach (So. Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) placed 10th for Saint Michael’s, while Hayley Cronin (No. Attleboro, Mass.) was tops for the Hornets with a ninth-place result.
Saint Michael’s returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 25 for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by Le Moyne College.
