BASEBALL SWEEPS MOUNTAINEERS, EXTENDS UNBEATEN STREAK

Phone: (802) 654-2537BENNINGTON, Vt. – Freshman Mike Frimodig (Essex Jct., Vt./Essex) and sophomore Dan O’Connor (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) fired complete game victories as Saint Michael’s College swept a baseball doubleheader at Southern Vermont College on Thursday, winning both games, 9-1.
The Purple Knights run their winning streak to four games and their unbeaten streak to five games in improving to 8-9-1. Southern Vermont, meanwhile, falls to 0-4 on the season.
In the opener, Frimodig pitched his fourth complete game in just his fifth collegiate outing, allowing just five hits and no earned runs while striking out seven. He was backed by plenty of offensive support, with sophomore Kevin Harutunian (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) leading the way with a home run, single and two runs batted in. Classmate Jacob Lowell (Penobscot, Maine/George Stevens Academy) went 2-for-3 with a double and a career-high three RBI, while junior Eric Libardoni (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored.
Saint Michael’s received another stellar pitching performance in the nightcap, as O’Connor posted his first career complete game, allowing just three hits while recording seven strikeouts. Harutunian again led the offense with three singles and two runs scored to raise his batting average to .390, while sophomore Kevin Foley (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) doubled twice. Sophomore Kevin Koscso (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit) and freshman Robby Barush (Essex, Vt./Essex) each doubled, singled and knocked in a run.
The Purple Knights play their next five games on the road, beginning with Monday’s nine-inning contest at Norwich University, before returning home to play Castleton State College in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 19 at 1 p.m.
