             BASEBALL WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT, POUNDS NORWICH 21-4

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College pounded out 21 runs on 19 hits on its way to a 21-4 win over Norwich University, in baseball action Monday afternoon at Municipal Field in Northfield, Vt. Norwich falls to 7-8-1 with the loss, while Saint Michael’s runs its unbeaten streak to six games and evens its record at 9-9-1.

The Purple Knights held a 7-0 lead over the Cadets after three innings, before Norwich got on the board when Josh Creighton (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) doubled home C.J. Daley (Orange, Calif./Orange) in the bottom of the fourth.

Saint Michael’s blew the game open in the fifth inning with eight runs on six singles, four walks and two Norwich errors.

Daley led the Cadets at the plate with a 3-for-3 effort and a pair of RBI. Ken Downey (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) also had a pair of hits.

Junior Eric Libardoni (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) led the Purple Knights with a 5-for-7 performance and three RBI, while sophomore Kevin Harutunian (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) drove in five runs on three hits including a three-run home run in the seventh inning.

Saint Michael’s starter Ryan Coonley (Albany, N.Y./Christian Brothers) picked up the win for the Purple Knights; he scattered nine hits and fanned six Cadets in seven complete innings of work. Norwich starter Casey Bell (Northfield, Vt./Central, Fla.) gave up four earned runs on four hits in two innings of work and was charged with the loss.

Norwich returns to action on Wednesday, April 14, when it travels to Bennington, Vt., to face Southern Vermont College.

Saint Michael's visits in-state rival Castleton State College in a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m.
