Their 9-8 loss to Purdue University - North Central and 8-6 defeat at the hands of MidAmerica Nazarene University extended their losing streak to three games.
In the first game, junior David Deyo's (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) three-run blast keyed the Purple Knights (3-4) to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning. However, Purdue North Central rallied to tie the game with two runs in the first inning and four in the second. Junior Jay Colon's (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) RBI single in the fifth briefly gave Saint Michael's a 7-6 edge before Purdue North Central took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Purple Knights also lost Game 2 despite a pair of rallies. Down 3-1 in the bottom of the third, Colon plated two on a single to tie the game, but MidAmerica Nazarene went back ahead 6-3 with three runs in the top of the fourth. Sophomore Kevin Koscso (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit) smacked a two-run single in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 6-5, but the Purple Knights got no closer. Sophomore Kevin Harutunian (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) picked up two singles while scoring four times, and classmate Dan O'Connor (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) picked up the loss after allowing three earned runs in 4-2/3 innings on the mound.
Saint Michael's will return to action Friday against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 8:30 a.m. The Purple Knights will finish up their nine-game Florida trip on Saturday against Carthage College at 2:30 p.m.
