EASTON, Mass.-- In the highly anticipated match-up between the only two unbeaten teams in NE-10 play, the Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 4 Stonehill College, 17-8, at Chieftains Stadium on Saturday in Easton, Mass.

The host Chieftains (10-2, 7-0 Northeast-10) took over sole possession of first place in the Northeast-10 standings, as the visiting Purple Knights (5-4, 5-1 Northeast-10) also entered the match unbeaten in league play. SMC took an early 2-0 lead but fell 6-3 at the break, and the Chieftains scored three of the first four goals of the second half to extend their advantage to five at 9-4. Saint Michael’s came back with a pair of goals to cut its deficit to 9-6, but the hosts once again scored three of the next four goals to take a 12-7 lead, as Stonehill netted five of the final six markers in the last 8:19 of the contest to claim its 10th straight victory this season and improve to 39-1 all-time in Northeast-10 play.

Senior Amanda Lohin (Wellesley, Mass.) notched a hat trick in the setback for Saint Michael’s to become the Purple Knights’ career goal scoring leader with 107 tallies, while sophomores Kate Hallisey (West Roxbury, Mass.) and Alexa Huckins-Noss (Adamant, Vt.) each added a pairof goals for the visitors, who also received a marker from sophomore Lauren Piekarski (East Sandwich, Mass.) and assists from sophomore Katelyn Krumperman (South Glastonbury, Conn.) and freshman Amaris Pawlowski (Morris, Conn.).

Senior Carissa Medeiros (New Bedford, Mass.) made four saves in 56 minutes of action to pick up her 35th career victory in goal for Stonehill, while freshman Lauren Stone (Slingerlands, N.Y.) was not called upon to make a save in the final four minutes of play. Sophomore Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt.) made 19 stops in net for Saint Michael’s on the afternoon, as the Chieftains outshot the Purple Knights by a 47-15 margin in collecting their seventh win in eight series meetings between the schools.

Saint Michael’s hosts Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 match on Wednesday afternoon in Colchester, Vt. at 3:30 p.m.
