COLCHESTER, VT – Senior captains Bryan Barletto (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Kevin Duffy (Yonkers, N.Y.) scored a pair of hat tricks today, leading the Saint Michael's College men’s lacrosse team to a 10-9 victory over Northeast-10 rival Southern New Hampshire University Saturday at Doc Jacobs Field.

With the win, the Purple Knights improve to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the NE-10, while the Penman drop to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The Purple Knights jumped out to the early lead in the first quarter, when Duffy scored the game’s first goal unassisted with 12:33 remaining.  Barletto followed with his first goal just over four minutes later on a pass from sophomore Bobby Dippell (San Jose, Calif.), giving Saint Michael’s a 2-0 lead.  SNHU battled back late in the first to tie it up, getting goals from sophomore Josh Law (Liverpool, N.Y.) with 5:12 remaining and from freshman Joe Hezlep (S. Portland, Maine) at the 2:59 mark.

Saint Michael’s regained the lead early in the second quarter, getting goals from sophomore Nick Calnen (W. Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Eric Libby (Cohasset, Mass.) in the first four minutes of play.  The goals were the only two that the Purple Knights would muster over the next 17:26 of play.  The Penman took advantage of the drought, going on a 4-0 scoring run and jumping out to a 6-4 lead early in the second half.

With SNHU leading, 7-6, Saint Michael’s followed with a four-goal run of their own to take a 10-7 lead early in the fourth quarter.  With 6:58 remaining in the game, senior Kyle Hintlian (Lexington, Mass.) cut the lead to two with an unassisted goal for the Penman.  Law added another goal for SNHU with 0:12 left in the game to make the score 10-9, which is how it would end.

Leading the way with Barletto and Duffy were Calnen, who picked up two goals, and sophomore Ryan Lynn (New Canaan, Conn.), who notched a goal and an assist for the Purple Knights.  For the Penman, Law was the top scorer with three goals, while Hezlep, Hintlian and Joe Lovell (Glastonbury Conn.) each added two.  Saint Michael’s out-shot SNHU 41-27.

The Purple Knights return to action on Tuesday when they host NE-10 rival Merrimack College at 3:30 p.m. on Doc Jacobs Field.
