PURPLE KNIGHTS FALL TO #3 PACE

PUTNAM VALLEY, NY- Freshman Colin Achenbach (Burnsville, MN) recorded a career-high five goals and three assists and classmate Jeremy Jablonski (Mastic, NY) registered a career-best six goals and one assist in third-ranked Pace’s 24-4 victory over Saint Michael’s College at Putnam Valley HS.

The Setters improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference while SMC dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the NE-10. Pace avenged a 7-5 loss at Saint Michael’s last season.

Pace jumped out to an 8-2 lead after the first quarter and a 13-4 advantage by halftime. The defense and freshman goalkeeper Larry Petriccione (Yorktown Hts., NY) shut out the Purple Knights for the final 30 minutes. Petriccione made 13 saves in net.

The Setters scored five goals in a 3:50 stretch in the first quarter, two of which came by Jim Watson (Seaford, NY). Watson finished with three goals. Junior John Hemsley (Yorktown Hts., NY) added three goals and three assists for Pace.

Sophomore Ryan Lynn (New Canaan, CT) led the Purple Knights with two goals and Bryan Barletto (Liverpool, NY) added one goal and an assist. Sophomore Nick Calnen (W. Hartford, CT) put the Purple Knights on the board with a goal at the 2:30 mark of the first quarter.

Saint Michael’s goalie Brian Hingston (Concord, MA) stopped 18 shots in the loss.
