MEN'S LACROSSE TOPS MERRIMACK, 13-7

COLCHESTER, VT – Senior Bryan Barletto (Liverpool, N.Y.) netted five goals and an assist to lead the Saint Michael’s College men’s lacrosse team to a 13-7 victory over Northeast-10 rival Merrimack College today on Doc Jacobs Field.

The win is the second in a row for SMC, which improves to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the NE-10, while the Warriors fall to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the league.

The Purple Knights jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter as the home team had goals from Ryan Lynn (New Canaan, Conn.), Barletto, Eric Libby (Cohasset, Mass.), Brady Boyle (So. Dennis, Mass.) and Bobby Dippell (San Jose, Calif.).

For the Warriors, Wyatt Brown (Harvard, Mass.) scored three of his team leading five goals before the end of the half, as the visitors trailed 7-4 going into intermission.

The second half proved to be all Saint Michael’s, as the Purple Knights defense nearly shut out Merrimack in the fourth quarter. Barletto and freshman Brandon Kobelt (New York, N.Y.) each tallied a goal and an assist in the third as Wyatt cut SMC’s lead to 9-6 at the end of the quarter.

Saint Michael’s secured the victory in the fourth, as the squad scored four unanswered goals, three by Barletto and one each by Kobelt and senior Kevin Duffy (Yonkers, N.Y.).

Brian Brazill (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored Merrimack’s other two goals of the game as Mike Fidler (Billerica, Mass.) and Tim Murphy (Kennebunk, Maine) each dished out a pair of assists.

Sophomore Brian Hingston (Concord, Mass.) earned the victory for SMC after making eight saves. For Merrimack, Bill McCarthy (Ipswich, Mass.) stopped 13 shots.

Saint Michael’s returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Assumption at 3:30 pm.
