COLCHESTER, VT – Junior Kevin Barletta (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored six goals, four straight in the second quarter, to lead the Bryant College men’s lacrosse team to a 19-4 victory over Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Michael’s today at Doc Jacobs Field.

With the victory, the Bulldogs improve to 8-2 in the NE-10 and 10-5 overall, while the Purple Knights drop to 6-3 and 8-4.

Although Tim Birmingham (Brownsville, Vt.) put SMC on the board first at the 11:55 mark, it was the visitors who scored early and often as Bryant took a 4-1 lead in the initial stanza. Jon Yuengling (Merrick, N.Y.) had two tallies in the first quarter for the Bulldogs.

Bryant took a commanding lead into intermission after scoring eight times in the second   quarter, with Barletta netting four consecutive goals between the 8:12 mark and 1:13 left in the half. Junior Ryan Knope (Rochester, N.Y.) assisted on five straight tallies to close out the first half and give the visitors a 12-2 lead.

Defense controlled the start of the second half as Bryant held Saint Michael’s scoreless in the third quarter, while the Bulldogs managed only two scores. Barletta added his fifth goal of the game at the 2:25 mark.  Birmingham tallied his hat trick goal for SMC in the fourth, but the effort proved futile as Bryant scored five times in the final 15 minutes of play to seal the victory.

Jim Crozier (Avon, Conn.) and Brian Hingston (Concord, Mass.) combined for nine saves for SMC, as Greg Horowitz (Yorktown, N.Y.) stopped 11 shots for the Bulldogs.

Saint Michael’s returns to action on Monday in its final regular season home game against Bentley. Bryant waits to learn its postseason fate as the Northeast-10 Conference play-offs begin this week.
