COLCHESTER, VT –
Senior co-captain Kevin Duffy (Yonkers, N.Y.) scored five goals
and added an assist to lead the Saint Michael’s College men’s
lacrosse team to a 15-4 win over Northeast-10 rival Assumption College
today at Doc Jacobs field.
The Purple Knights
jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first half as Duffy tallied three while Tristan
Bandoni (Newport, R.I.) and Ryan Lynn (New Canaan, Conn.)
each netted a pair of goals to lead the home team’s offensive charge.
SMC’s defense held the Greyhounds scoreless throughout the first half.
Matt Goldblatt
(Norwich, Conn.) scored the first of his three goals at 11:05 of the
third quarter to give Assumption its first mark of the game. He went on
to score twice more in the final 15 minutes, but Saint Michael’s lead
was too much to overcome.
Lynn amassed four goals
in the contest and senior Bryan Barletto (Liverpool, N.Y.) had
two tallies for SMC.
Brendan Greeley
(Amherst, Mass.) stopped 10 shots
in net for the Purple Knights, while Matt Hoffman (Westfield, Mass.)
made 17 saves for Assumption.
With the win, SMC
improves to 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds fall
to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the league.
Saint Michael’s
returns to action on April 22 when the squad hosts Saint Anselm College
at 3:30 p.m. Assumption host non-conference rival New Have on April 21.
