COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Rose defeated Green Mountain College 101-74 in the first day of the Doc Jacobs Thanksgiving Classic on Friday at the Ross Sports Center.

High scorer for Saint Rose junior Kyl Jones (Elmsford, N.Y./Pleasantville) ended Green Mountain’s 10-0 run in the first half with a field goal, putting the Golden Knights on the board. The Golden Knights gained the lead with 8:07 remaining in the first half. Jones was the high scorer for the winning side with 13 points, aided by sophomore guard Brad Shove (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) and junior guard Terry George (Buffalo, N.Y./Buffalo Traditional) posting 11 points each. Saint Rose sophomore Terrance King (Hempstead, N.Y./Hempstead) had a game high five assists in the victory.

The Golden Knights defensive efforts helped sustain the 52-41 lead after halftime, denying Green Mountain’s offense from scoring for the first 3:42 of play in the second half. In three minutes of play, junior Adonist Barber (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) blocked Green Mountain’s Marquis Hyslop (New Haven, Conn.) while Shove, and seniors Jon Saunders (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and Jesse Cort (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook) combined for three steals. Saint Rose scored 23 points in total off of turnovers.

Green Mountain College’s high scorer for the night was senior John Saporita (Norwich, Conn.) with 20. Vermont native Jon Simmons (Poultney, Vt.) posted 19 points in the loss.

Saint Rose will meet Felician tomorrow at 2 p.m. and Green Mountain will play host team Saint Michael’s at 4 p.m.
