Phone: (802) 654-2537SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Junior Jessica Temesy’s (Blenheim, Ontario) three power play goals lifted second-ranked Manhattanville College past Saint Michael’s College, 9-0, in ECAC East women’s ice hockey action on Saturday at Cairns Arena.
For the Valiants, senior Cherie Stewart (Lake Forest, Calif.) notched two goals and an assist, while senior Jennifer Mulick (Aurora, Ontario) added a goal and an assist. Freshman Liane Ortis (Mississauga, Ontario) stopped eight shots for her third shutout of the season for Manhattanville (11-0-1, 10-0-0 ECAC East).
For Saint Michael’s (2-8-0, 1-7-0 ECAC East), senior Marcy Ring (North Attleboro, Mass./Saint George’s School) turned aside 58 shots as the Purple Knights were outshot, 67-8.
Manhattanville opened the scoring 7:56 into the contest, as freshman Lyndsay Letourneau’s (Greene, N.H.) shot trickled just over the goal line, with Mulick earning the assist. Following a successful Purple Knights’ penalty kill, Stewart gave the Valiants a 2-0 advantage at the 16:43 mark with an unassisted tally, her team-leading 14th goal of the season.
The visitors took a 3-0 lead just nine seconds into the second stanza, as freshman Amanda Nonis (Brampton, Ontario) connected off of assists from Stewart and sophomore Darcie Jarvis (Newmarket, Ontario). With seven minutes left in the frame, Manhattanvile notched its first power play goal in eight chances in the series, as Temesy backhanded a shot, with assists credited to senior Kim Hayden (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and freshman Jessica Zimmerman (Wauseon, Ohio).
The Valiants sealed the win with five goals in the first 9:11 of the third period. Temesy scored 53 seconds into the frame and completed her hat trick at the 8:13 mark, while Stewart, Mulick and freshman Cory Alcorn (Orangeville, Ontario) also scored in the period.
Saint Michael’s is off until Jan. 4-5, when it visits Sacred Heart University in a pair of 3 p.m. contests. The Purple Knights return home to host league-rival Massachusetts Institute of Technology in a weekend series Jan. 8-9.
