Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. - A pair of Saint Michael's College first-years were named Northeast-10 Conference Freshmen of the Week on Monday, while a handful of Purple Knights earned Weekly Honor Roll recognition.
In swimming and diving, Stephanie Hammer (Billings, Mont./Billings West) was named the NE-10 Women's Freshman of the Week. Hammer won both the 500- and 100-yard freestyle races for the third straight dual meet in Wednesday's victory at Norwich University, and added a fourth and fifth-place finish in those respective races at the nine-team Bentley College Invitational on Sunday.
In men's ice hockey, Ryan Mero (Peekskill, N.Y./Avon Old Farms) earned NE-10 Freshman of the Week honors. Mero scored the game-winning goal and added two assists in Friday's 5-1 win at the University of Southern Maine, the 250th career victory for Purple Knights' head coach Lou DiMasi.
Two women's basketball players were named to the Weekly Honor Roll following their performance at the season-opening DoubleTree Tip-Off Classic. Junior Dani Rayner (Westminster, Vt./Bellows Falls Union) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, as she averaged 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and 1.5 steals per game in a pair of victories. Senior Brigid Hegarty (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) was named to the All-Tournament Team, as she averaged 12 points, four assists, four rebounds and 2.5 steals in the two wins.
In men's basketball, junior Brendan Mullins (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) earned Weekly Honor Roll honors, as he was named to the All-Tournament Team at the West Chester University Alumni Association Classic. Mullins averaged 21 points per game in the two games at the tournament, including a career-high 29 points in Saturday's 93-62 win versus Saint Leo University.
In men's hockey, junior Chris Thurston (Wallingford, Conn./Fairfield Prep) received an honor roll nod, as he scored a pair of goals in Friday's win at Southern Maine. And in swimming and diving, junior Laura Mann (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) earned honors, as she placed first in the 200-yard individual medley in the Norwich meet, and fifth in the 200-yard IM and the 200-yard breaststroke at the Bentley Invitational.
