Sophomore Jared Silver (Montreal, Quebec) dished out two helpers while sophomores Mike Gleason (Westford, Mass.) and Derek Girouard (Methuen, Mass.) each notched their first goals of the season. Sophomore goaltender Derek Jackson (Clinton, N.Y.) was solid between the pipes, shutting out the Camels for two periods and allowing only two goals on 25 shots.
For the Camels, senior David Moccia (Malvern, Penn.) handed out a pair of assists while freshman Rob Campbell (Reading, Mass.) notched the first goal of his career. Goaltender Steve Oven (Vestal, N.Y.) stopped 22 Purple Knight shots in the losing effort.
Perez started the scoring, depositing the lone goal of the first period when he roofed a pass from junior Craig Geragosian (North Andover, Mass.) over the Camel goaltender’s right shoulder to give the Purple Knights a 1-0 lead. Jackson provided some big saves keeping the visitors at bay through the first frame.
Gleason tipped a Steve Nerland (Calgary, Alberta) shot between the legs of the Connecticut College goaltender to give the Purple Knights a two-goal lead 2:45 into the second period. Perez then added his second goal of the game when Silver beat a Camel defender to the puck off the face off and made a pass across the crease to an open Perez, giving the Purple Knights a 3-0 lead that they would take into the third period. Jackson continued to keep the Camels in check, stopping eight shots in the period.
Girouard’s goal at the 8:12 mark of the third period appeared to put the Camels away, but Campbell’s goal and two costly penalties resulted in a second power play goal for Connecticut College, bringing them to within two. But Jackson kept the Camels out of reach with some key stops late, giving the Purple Knights their first victory of the season.
Saint Michael’s and Connecticut College return to action on Saturday at 3 p.m., with the Purple Knights hosting Tufts University and the Camels visiting Norwich University.
