Manchester, NH (November 18) – Saint Anselm used a six-goal second period to pull away from St. Michael’s, on its way to an 8-1 victory over the visiting Purple Knights on Friday night at Sullivan Arena. The Hawks, led by a pair of scores from freshman Kathleen Twomey (Londonderry, N.H.), were an impressive 3-for-6 on the power play during the night. With the victory, the Hawks run their winning streak to 11 straight games over the last two seasons.

Saint Anselm got on the board at 11:32 of the first period on a goal from sophomore Brittany Kretzman (Edina, Minn.). The Knights evened the score on a Sarah Walker score less than five minutes later when she poked home a rebound for the goal. The Hawks took the lead for good with 1:56 remaining in the opening period though when Twomey put Saint Anselm up 2-1 with a backhanded goal.

In the middle stanza, the Hawks scored six times as they quickly put away the visiting Purple Knights. Sophomore Cindy Lebel (Greenville, Maine) scored a power-play goal just 30 seconds into the period, followed by a Danielle Campbell (Milton, Mass.) score just 31 seconds later to put Saint Anselm ahead, 4-1. Junior Lindsay Snow (Amherst, N.H.), Twomey, Ingrid Mintautas (Downers Grove, Ill.) and Rachel Cooke (Stowe, Vt.) closed out the scoring for the host Hawks in the second period. The Hawks dominated the period in every aspect, outshooting St. Michael’s by an 18-0 margin and capitalizing on both of their power play chances.

For the game, Saint Anselm outshot St. Michael’s by a 55-6 margin. The Hawks were 3-of-6 on the power play, while St. Michael’s was a perfect 1-for-1 in their only power play opportunity of the game. ECAC East Goaltender of the Week Andrea Berlin (Durham, N.H.) made one save to pick up the win for the Hawks as she played the first two periods for Saint Anselm. Sophomore Kerri Clarke (Burlington, Mass.) played the final period and made four stops in the victory. Annice Mason made 47 saves in defeat for St. Michael’s.

With the win, Saint Anselm remains perfect on the season at 5-0-0 both overall and in ECAC East play. St. Michael’s falls to 3-2-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the ECAC East. The Hawks are back in action on Saturday when Castleton State visits Sullivan Arena for an ECAC East contest. The puck is set to drop at 3 p.m.
