SAINT MICHAEL’S LOSES TO PACE, 3-2

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael's College (3-16, 1-12 NE-10) was defeated in five games by Pace University (12-13, 7-7 NE-10) in Northeast-10 women’s volleyball action on Saturday morning at the Ross Sports Center.

For the Setters, Korena Johnson (Friendswood, Texas/Clear Brook) and Maja Iljic (Brcko, Yugoslavia/Dragon Veselic) each recorded 14 kills, as Ashley DAgostini (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) helped out with 51 assists, while Kasey Barrett had 27 digs.

For the Purple Knights, senior Katilyn Rae (Willbraham, Mass./Reading Memorial) had a game high 25 kills and four service aces, as classmate Jessica Mulroy (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) added 51 assists and six assisted blocks. Freshman Stephanie Smetana (Independence, Mo./Truman) had 16 digs and senior Katie Oullette (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) had 15 kills and 13 digs.

Saint Michael's took the first game by a score of 30-26, and lost a very close second game by a 30-27 final. In game three, the Purple Knights opened up their biggest lead of the morning at 18-9 en route to a 30-28 win, but came out flat in the fourth, falling behind 11-1 early, and eventually lost 30-13. With the fifth and deciding game tied at seven, the Setters pulled ahead and took the match with a 15-11 win.

The Purple Knights complete their season with a Saturday afternoon contest against Southern Connecticut State University at 2 p.m. while Pace will play American International on Sunday evening at 5 p.m.
