The loss completes the season for the Purple Knights (4-13-1, 1-12-0 NE-10), who dropped their final 13 contests following a 4-0-1 start.
For the Warriors, senior Doug Trainor (Simsbury, Conn.) assisted on Dubois’ game-winner, while classmate Keith Boudreau (Forestdale, Mass.) stopped seven shots to earn the shutout. Merrimack (13-4-1, 8-4-1 NE-10) will enter the NE-10 Playoffs as the fifth seed.
Junior Patrick Melvin (Belmont, Vt./Black River) stopped 10 shots, eight in the first half, for Saint Michael’s, which honored three seniors prior to the game: Pablo Noguera (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry), Bobby Self (Kailua, Hawaii/Kaiser), and Mike Ulshoeffer (Easthampton, Mass./Easthampton).
Dubois opened the scoring with 11:45 remaining in the opening period, as he connected for his sixth goal of the season. The Warriors added a key insurance goal with 3:22 left in the first half, as West’s unassisted tally, his first of the season, gave the visitors a 2-0 cushion.
The Purple Knights mounted some pressure in the second half, but missed the production of their two leading scorers, Noguera and sophomore Glenn Sherman (Arlington, Vt./Arlington Memorial), who missed the game due to injury.
