COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College concluded its 2005 season with a 4-0 shutout of the College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer action on Wednesday at Duffy Field. The victory was the 50th for ninth-year Purple Knights’ head coach Tim Kaleita.

For the Purple Knights, senior Jerrod Hall (Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) and sophomores Yoshikazu Ishii (Tokyo, Japan) and Aaron Vine (Saratoga, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) each tallied a goal and an assist, while junior Glenn Sherman (Arlington, Vt./Arlington Memorial) also scored. Senior Patrick Melvin (Belmont, Vt./Black River) stopped five shots to earn his sixth shutout of the season for Saint Michael’s (7-10-1, 5-7-1 NE-10), which matched the most wins in a season since 1988. In addition to Hall and Melvin, seniors honored prior to their last collegiate contest were Andrew Akins (Lisbon, N.Y./Worcester Academy), Kimoi Seale (Brooklyn, N.Y./Prospect Heights) and Charlie Zambri (Gloversville, N.Y./Gloversville).

For the Golden Knights, sophomore Peter Cappiello (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and freshman Mike Petrera (Marcellus, N.Y.) combined to turn aside seven shots. Saint Rose (5-11, 2-10 NE-10) has lost 10 of its last 12 contests following a 3-1 start.

Saint Michael’s opened the scoring in the 16th minute, as Sherman headed in an Ishii corner kick for his fifth goal of the season. The goal moved Sherman past Jeff Winterton ’93 into third place in program history with 48 career points. The Purple Knights doubled their 17 minutes lead before halftime, as Vine recorded his third goal of the season off of a Hall assist.

The hosts sealed the victory with a pair of second-half goals, as Ishii netted his team-leading sixth goal of the year in the 62nd minute, and Hall posted his third score of the year in the 68th minute off of an assist from sophomore Matt Healy (Gilmanton, N.H./Gilford).
