PURPLE KNIGHTS CLOSE HOME SCHEDULE WITH 3-1 LOSS

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Despite winning the first set, Saint Michael’s College dropped its final home match of the season to Middlebury College, 3-1 (28-30, 30-25, 30-18, 30-24), in volleyball action on Tuesday at the Ross Sports Center. Middlebury improves to 19-9, while the Purple Knights fall to 5-16.

For the Panthers, senior Laurie Wollin (Colleyville, Texas) tallied a match-high 45 assists, while classmate Katy Hicks (Santa Barbara, Calif.) added a team-high 14 kills. Junior Jamie Wong (San Francisco, Calif.) notched 19 digs for the visitors.

For Saint Michael’s, junior Katie Ouellette (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) posted a team-best 13 kills, while classmate Jess Mulroy (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) handed out 39 assists. Seniors Lindsey Shumway (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills) and Stephanie Robbins (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills), playing the final home match of their careers, tallied 10 and eight kills, respectively.

Saint Michael’s, still with an outside chance at making the Northeast-10 Conference playoffs, closes its season with four road matches, beginning with Saturday’s 5:30 p.m. contest at league-rival Merrimack College.
