COLCHESTER, Vt. – Junior Jesse Milling’s (Scarborough, Maine) header in the 48th minute was the difference as Saint Anselm College blanked Saint Michael’s College, 1-0, in Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer action on Saturday at Doc Jacobs Field.

For the Hawks, freshman Michael Bouton (Cromwell, Conn.) assisted on Milling’s game-winner, while classmate Tim Galligan (Farmington, Mass.) turned back eight shots for Saint Anselm (3-10-3, 3-7-2 NE-10).

For the Purple Knights, freshman Tim Williamson (Wakefield, R.I./Barrington) recorded six saves. Saint Michael’s (4-12-1, 1-11-0) has lost 12 straight contests following a 4-0-1 start, including seven one-goal setbacks.

Following an evenly-played first half that saw both teams fire eight shots, the visitors broke through just 2:14 into the second stanza, as Milling notched his third goal of the season and first game-winner.

Saint Michael’s pressured the Hawks in the final 10 minutes, but a pair of key saves by Galligan kept the Purple Knights off of the scoreboard. Senior Bobby Self (Kailua, Hawaii/Kaiser) was denied of a game-tying goal with six minutes remaining, while freshman Scott Haungs’ (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) point-blank attempt with two minutes left was turned aside by Galligan.

Saint Michael’s plays its final game of the season on Wednesday against Merrimack College at 2:30 p.m. at Doc Jacobs Field.
